Professional Development Seminar held at Pacific Golf Club

By gmaq on March 11, 2012

The first of the Professional Development Seminars was held on Tuesday, 6th March 2012 at Pacific Golf Club (Brisbane).
The morning started with Danielle Peters & Nicole Wildman from Total Workplace Solutions. Danielle provided a very informative presentation in relation to the new Workplace Health and Safety laws. With the new Work Health & Safety Act 2011 and WHS Regulations 2011 effective from 1st of January 2012, many clubs are wondering if they comply. It was lucky stress balls were provided because the Manager’s were feeling a little overwhelmed by the end of the session. If you feel that your club requires a Health and Safety Compliance Audit please contact Danielle at danielle@totalworkplacesolutions.com.au. A compliance audit will outline how your workplace is operating in line with your obligations in creating and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and work practices.
Jeff Blunden, Jeff Blunden Advisory Services provided a presentation entitled “The Biggest Challenge for Current Day Managers”. After a round table discussion it was obvious that revenue and membership were indeed a big challenge for most golf clubs. Advertising and marketing budgets seem to be low priority, with the majority of clubs only spending 1% or less of the clubs turnover. Marketing must be measurable and this can be difficult to gauge. Jeff is able to provide you with all of the necessary knowledge to help ensure you achieve your marketing goals. Jeff can be contacted on 0412 989 222.
Tanja Prell from Club Super provided a presentation on individual superannuation strategies. Tanja did a demonstration of the Your Super Future, which is a free online super advice tool to help look at the following:- your annual superannuation contribution, which investment choice is right for you, insurances with Club Super and setting and working towards a retirement income goal. Tanja or a representative in your area will come on-site and provide general advice to employees on superannuation and help them meet their retirement goals. Please feel free to give Tanja a call on 0429 472 091.
The Committee made a few changes to this year’s schedule and have provided more professional development sessions so Manager’s can still have the opportunity to return to work if needed. We were pleased with the number of attendees at the first Professional Development Seminar.
On behalf of GMAQ I would like to express thanks to Cameron Harvey for hosting a great day.
Look forward to seeing you all at Pacific Harbour and Bribie Island Golf Clubs for the Weekend Trip Away on Sunday 22nd April and Monday 23rd April.
