GMAQ 2013 Xmas Function

This years Xmas function will be held on 24 & 25 November 2013 where we have secured tickets to the 4th Day of the Ashes at the Gabba on Sunday, 24 November. Then on the Monday, we will be heading over the Victoria Park Golf Complex where Nick Flaskas (Owner/Director) will be giving us a guided tour of the facility. Following the tour will be a Championship Round of Putt Putt to decide the 2013 Von Nida Champion. Following putt putt will be lunch at the complex. I have made inquiries into accommodation and I have found that Diana Plaza Hotel is reasonably priced (due to most other accom venues charging extra due to the Ashes).
Diana Plaza Hotel, Annerley Rd (15 mins walk to the cricket) - phone 33391 2911, they have plenty of rooms for the Sunday night, 24 Nov (29 at the moment) but I would encourage you to book soon as they are filling up quickly due to the Ashes.
For a deluxe queen room (twin share) – 2 pax - $250 or a 3^rd person can join the room (triple share) for an extra $25. There are some accommodation houses that have a cheaper rate but are not in walking distance. Those attending that want to head to the city can do so via cab. Alternatively, there is night life in the area which is walking distance.
So that I can allocate tickets and advise names to Carlton who are supplying the tickets to the Ashes, can you please advise if you will be attending this event ASAP thanks. GMAQ Sponsors Day at Surfers Paradise Golf Club - 12 August 2013

The next event on the GMAQ calendar is the Sponsors Day at Surfers Paradise Golf Club on Monday, 12 August 2013. The event commences at 11am and includes lunch, golf and dinner. I look forward to seeing you at the final event before the GMA National Conference in September.

2013 John Deere Championships

Photo attached is the winners of the John Deere Championship for 2013 held at Redcliffe Golf Club yesterday.

Winners were Lakelands (score 60 2/3), 2^nd Nudgee Golf Club (Score 61 2/3), 3rd Keperra Golf Club (score 63 1/3)

Both Lakelands & Nudgee qualify for the Trans Tasman Final held at Lakelands Golf Club at the end of the year.

GMAQ Weekend Trip to Toowoomba - 19 & 20 May

Our weekend trip away to Toowoomba where we visit the City Golf Club and Middle Ridge Golf Club is fast approaching - 19 & 20 May 2013. This should be an excellent event where the group have a presentation by Allan Harris (Tewantin Noosa GC) on his recent experience at the Club Managers Association of America World Conference. Accommodation has been arranged at the City Golf Club Motel for $140 per night. To book a room, please call Alan & Wanda Low at the Motel on (07) 4636 9999 or email info@citygolfmotel.com.au . Hope you can join us at this event and support the Toowoomba clubs. To assist in the organisation of our activities, please book into the event via the online booking system. 

The 2nd round of the GMAQ Matchplay will be played during the weekend trip away. See the matches below. If any of the players cannot attend, there will be a wild card draw from those attending the event. These matches will be played on Sunday at City Golf Club. Good luck to all!

BRISBANE GOLF CLUB HITS PAR AT AWARDS

Over 1,000 guests and friends of “clubland” attended the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition

Centre event to see The Brisbane Golf Club awarded for their outstanding golf facilities, winning the category Best Golf Club, Venue and Facilities .

The Brisbane Golf Club provides their members and guests with an 18 hole golf course, driving

range, chipping green, fully stocked golf shop, tuition, clubhouse facilities, fine dining for

members and a function room.

The club has certainly bounced back after the course was 90% covered in floodwater during

the 2011 floods with incentives for new members, discounted entrance fees and investment in
the necessary infrastructure to keep facilities modern and exciting.

Clubs Queensland Chief Executive Officer Doug Flockhart congratulated The Brisbane Golf Club

for their dedication and hard work to rebuild after the floods. “Despite The Brisbane Golf Club being heavily affected by the floods, they continue to provide excellent facilities for their members and promote the game of golf across the southside,” Mr Flockhart said.

GMAQ Course Design Education Day @ Horton Park GC!

A huge thank you to General Manager, of Horton Park Golf Club, Charlie McGilland to his Board of Directors for hosting the Course Design Education Day yesterday. All the managers, board members and superintendents enjoyed a presentation by Course Designer, David Ireland from Graham Marsh Course Design who are desgining the new course that Horton Park GC will be moving to late 2014 called the Maroochy River Golf Club. David also went into the design process and event tabled and explained the processes associated with a design they submitted to build a floating golf course and village etc in Mauritius. Very impressive!! David's presentation is available if anyone would like a copy. Please email me on aaron.muirhead@nudgeegolf.com.au and I will send it across.

GMAQ Executive Day @ RQ!

The GMAQ Executive Day is scheduled to be held at Royal Queensland Golf Club on Monday, 11 March 2013 and the online booking sheet is now open! Please book early for this event as spots will fill quickly. Teams will be playing for the prestigious 'Ted Coker Shield'.

Attendees, please be aware of the following at Royal Queensland:

GMAQ Xmas Weekend Away 2012

The GMAQ Xmas Weekend Away for 2012 was held in the middle of December at Palmer Coolum Resort and Mt Coolum Golf Club. It was great to see the number of managers, board members and past managers that attended the event and I thank you all for supporting this event, especially Anita and board members from the Mt Isa Golf Club.

On Sunday, 16 December 2012, we attended the Australian PGA at Palmer Coolum Resort where we enjoyed lunch in the club house thanks to the PGA and to watch the final day of golf.

Monday we attended the Mt Coolum Golf Club and was hosted by Manager, Sharon Purnell. Prior to the game, our group was addressed by Brian Thorburn (CEO - Aust PGA). Brian spoke openly about the direction of the PGA and the future of the Aust PGA.

We then hit the beautiful Mt Coolum course. Prior to this event the 'Dudley Von Nida' leaderboard was:

This meant that Jason Looker needed to win to force a playoff with Cameron Harvey. Jason fought hard (3rd - 36 points) but finished behind Brett Holland (Winner with 37 points c/b) and Greg Palm (Mt Isa GC - 37 points c/b). Therefore, congratulations to Cameron Harvey, the 'Dudley Von Nida Champion for 2012 with 17 points from Jason Looker on 15 points.

I would like to thank Sharon Purnell for her hospitality and for allowing us to play on the beautiful Mt Coolum course.
